New Jersey-based singer-songwriter, Babie, also known as Julia Affinito, released her debut album “Tree Sap” in October of 2020 in hopes that talking about her hard times growing up could provide a support system for listeners. Performing since she was just three years old, she has immense talent in singing, aiming for an alternative/indie sound but predominantly writing whatever comes from her heart.
Though the album as a whole represents the hardships she went through, track eight, “Life is Stormy” talks about accepting what you have gone through and realizing that you learned and grew from it. The accompanying music video conveys that message perfectly.
In the music video, Affinito sits in front of the camera, delivering the lyrics in different settings. Between gloomy rooms and lightning, mirrors, and various lighting, the viewer is able to visualize Babie's feelings change throughout the song.
“Life is Stormy '' consists of soft vocals, emotional lyrics, and gentle instrumentals. It brings out the sincerity Babie was aiming for and enhances the feelings she wants to portray.
She begins the first verse with lines describing how alone and hopeless she feels, but as we progress into the chorus, she mentions how she “likes the rain”, symbolizing how after this she will make it through. Life is like a storm, but after it, you are watered and you begin to grow.
The emotion throughout the music video brings out the true meaning behind the track. Babie does an amazing job of creating music with intense emotion that comes straight from the heart.
