"Afterlife (Acoustic)"- Highwind Review

Written by Jennifer Moglia Asbury Park, New Jersey natives Highwind released their newest single today, Friday, April third, 2020. The pop-rock duo was spearheaded by Chris Russo Jr., their guitarist, vocalist andsongwriter. Chris wrote Highwind’s “How’ve You Been?” EP and has been touring nationally with fellow vocalist, songwriter, and producer, Dan Synn. Since the EP’s release in January 2018, Chris and Dan have been taking the time to write and release new music, one of those tracks being “Afterlife (Acoustic).” Their most recent release prior to today’s, “2023”, was the first track written by both Russo and Synn, signaling the start of a new era. “Afterlife (Acoustic)” is their way of turning the page on the previous chapter. This track definitely benefits from its acoustic sound, giving it a light, uplifting feeling. It pairs that dreamy sound with personal, vulnerable lyrics that complete the experience, serving as a safety blanket for listeners during the current crazy state of the world. While it takes on the same title as the closing track on the “How’ve You Been?” EP, the song doesn’t sound exactly the same. It conveys a similar set of emotions using a more stripped-down style, almost making that core message of reaching for acceptance and wondering about what happens in the “afterlife” even more effective. While “Afterlife (Acoustic)” signifies the end of an era for Highwind, it’s only the beginning for this talented pop-rock duo, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.

“Highwind wants to spread one message through their music; that it is okay to be open and honest with yourself and others. Their songwriting involves a raw expression of honest emotions. These songs are there to encourage their listeners to speak out and be open about how they feel.”
