A "SAGA" of Good Times, Bad Times, Love, and Loss by We The Kings - Review

Written by Sidney Strunk

Just over a month into 2021, we’ve already been truly blessed with so many incredible music releases. The latest addition to that list is “SAGA”, an EP by We The Kings that dropped February 5th, 2021.

Diving in headfirst with the aptly named track, “Turn It Up” was the first single off of this EP, released just before their 2019 tour with Simple Plan and State Champs which gave them the chance to perform it live. This is a classic, pop-punk pump-up song with a fast tempo and strong drum beats.

Keeping with the almost nostalgic feel of the first track, “These Nights” brings back memories of crowded venues and music so loud you can feel it in your bones. Most of us would give anything to go back to being able to see live music and the first two songs of “SAGA” give us just a taste of what that felt like.

Next up on the tracklist is “No 1 Like U”. This song is so fun and playful, it’s sure to make you want to get up and dance.

Fast-paced and upbeat, this is a great love song. The chorus is reminiscent of the song "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, and there's a break in the final chorus similar to "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, which highlights the classic playful pop sound.

“Falling - So In Love” is the perfect addition to your Valentine's Day playlist, opening with an acoustic guitar and singer Travis Clark’s melodic vocals. The song takes a look at a couple falling in love, meeting each other's parents, and the man proposing.

Choosing to end the EP with not one but two ballads was an interesting choice but it’s one that seems to work well. Both “The Light” and “Love Me Or Let Me Down” feel like an ending, leaving the listener with the impression that we’ve been following a story throughout the EP that is being wrapped up with these two songs.

“SAGA” is available now wherever you stream music; you can keep up with We The Kings on Twitter and check out their merch store here. Be sure to tweet us at @lgndsoftmrw and tell us what you thought of “SAGA!”
