On January 8th, Twin Cities band A Better Hand dropped their new song "Wrong One," which is off their upcoming EP, "Cheap Smokes & Champagne." On top of this news, the group also announced that they have signed to the Chicago-based label Mutant League Records.
The track starts with this bouncy guitar riff that pulls the listener in as it increases in pace leading up to the first verse. Lyrically, the opening verse is direct when describing the vocalist's feelings of heartache and how they deal with it, including the blunt line, "I got a cure, let me pour a drink."
The line "A girl on the run / Forget my heart, it's always beating for the wrong one" from the chorus particularly resonates well. Unfortunately, feeling like you constantly fall in love with the wrong people is a common experience for far too many of us.
The music video has a dreamy neon purple aesthetic, which draws you in visually immediately. Complete with "glitch" effects, it's truly an immersive, atmospheric video.
As a whole, this song is a great lead single off of a new release and should leave a good first impression for anyone finding them through Mutant League. If you're looking for a super fun up-and-coming Midwestern pop-punk band, A Better Hand is for you!
"Wrong One" is available to listen to on all streaming platforms now, along with a music video on Mutant League's YouTube channel; you can support the band by following them on Twitter @ABetterHandBand, keeping an eye out for "Cheap Smokes and Champagne" due out February 26th, and picking up some merch from their Bandcamp page.
